What is an on-off solenoid?

The on-off solenoid is an actuator that converts electrical current into mechanical motion. As the name suggests, the on-off solenoid is usually applied to hydraulic switching solenoid valves, so it is also known as the solenoid for switching solenoid valves.

On-off solenoid generally consists of the solenoid coil and core tube also called armature. Solenoid for hydraulic on-off valve moves the armature when current is applied to the coil. Continuous power is required to hold the armature in position. Removing power returns the armature to the original position via a spring return.

Compared with the proportional solenoid, the hydraulic solenoid for on-off solenoid valves moves between two fixed points, but proportional solenoids have variable positioning.

On-off solenoid from Anyang KaiDi includes the solenoid for Rexroth, Yuken and Vickers directional valve size 6 and size 10.

On-off solenoid working principle

On-off solenoid is generally installed at the end of solenoid directional valve. Take three-position four-way directional control valve as an example: as shown in the following figure, the solenoid valve has three undercutting grooves, fuel inlet chamber (p) is among, and working oil sump (A and B) is adjacent, there are two interconnected back oil chambers (T) at the end of valve, spring seat(3), reset spring(4) and push rod(5) are on both ends of main valve core. There are two solenoids on both sides of the valve.

  • When two solenoids are power off, valve core is in the middle. At the moment, P, A, B and T are mutually unintelligible, as shown in figure1.

Rexroth on-off solenoid working principle

  • When the left solenoid is powered, solenoid creates magnetic force and push valve core to move right, P and B are connected, A and T are connected. Once the left solenoid is powered off, the force of right reset spring put the valve in the middle position, four oil chambers recovery to the closed state. As shown in figure2:

Rexroth on-off solenoid

  • When the right solenoid is electrified, the iron core of solenoid pulls the rod and makes valve core move left, P and B are connected, A and T are connected. After the power outage, valve core returns to the middle position under the force of left reset spring, as shown in figure3.
